How Emmett met Norma:
Emmett's mother, Nancy Lounsbury, was working at a cannery in San Jose, CA, where she met Lillian Depee, Norma's sister. She arranged to have Emmett meet Lillian at her home, but when he got there it was Norma who caught his eye. He got "cute" (i.e. smart) with her and when she sassed him back he was hooked.
