Jenkins, P.J. at Kingman, Kansas 10-11-1910 Died of Cancer at Veterans Administration Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. Obit.: 1924 Wichita City Directory-- shows the following: Chas. M. Maddox - plasterer - Rose - res. 2521 Jackson Ave.: One of many stories heard about Charles, was one told me by Harold Jefferson Maddox Sr.: In the early 1900's (1916-1917) Charles played catcher for a baseball team in Wichita. At the time grandad (Charles) did not have enough money to buy a catchers mitt. so He caught Bare Handed or with a small pillow or rags tied to his hand. At the time pitchers stood closer to home plate than they do now. So the baseball would get to the plate at 100 mph or faster. You know it hurt bad, when the ball struck your hand. But grandad (Charles) caught every ball in every game his team played. The team consisted of Rail Road men for the Union Pacific.
