Sophia was said to have been raised in California by her "Aunt Annie" (Hannah "Annie" Thompson) since her mother, Alice, spent most of her adult life in an asylum:

Obituary - Sophie Lounsbury
ANDERSON Graveside services for Sophie Henrietta Lounsbury, 80, of Anderson will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Anderson District Cemetery.
Mrs. Lounsbury died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Shasta Healthcare in Redding.
Born July 20, 1923, in Watsonville, she moved to Shasta County in 1957 from Victorville.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Anderson Grange, Redding Rambling A's Car Club and Anderson Women's Improvement Club.
Survivors include son Fred of Redding; daughters Linda McMillan of Anderson and Imogene West of Grover Beach; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Anderson. (Redding Record Searchlight, 27 Sep 2003)
